MSU Teddy Bear Picnic Helps Kids Get Used to Doctors

Are your children afraid of check-ups? An event in October could be just what the doctor ordered to help them overcome those fears. Put on by Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine, the annual Teddy Bear Picnic is a free, family-friendly event. Kids are invited to bring their favorite stuffed animals for a check-up at the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Teddy Bear Hospital, a mock clinic staffed by physicians and students from MSU’s health colleges. Kids and their furry friends will be able to visit various stations that simulate real-life medical experiences. New this year, attendees can get free flu shots at the event through a partnership with Alana's Foundation, the Michigan Community Visiting Nurses Association, BCBSM and Blue Care Network. Fun activities are also planned, such as face painting, balloon animals, music, arts and crafts and helmet fittings. Make plans to bring your little one to this fun and educational event, set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the field across from the MSU Clinical Center.
