The signs of Grand Rapids’ ArtPrize are slowly starting to appear: Venue signs are going up in downtown storefronts. Art is popping up in unexpected locales. Out-of-town artists are making their way to West Michigan. With less than a week before the official kickoff, the various moving parts that go into the epic community production are falling into place. The annual art competition takes place Sept. 19 through Oct. 7 at various Grand Rapids venues, including Blue Cross’ downtown headquarters. To help more people take part in the conversation, Blue Cross, along with The Rapid, is once again sponsoring the Rapid Rides to ArtPrize program, which kicked off in 2014 and provides ArtPrize passes good for free transportation to and around the 19-day event to community members who might not otherwise attend. Designed to introduce new audiences to the burgeoning art scene that will unfold, the program breaks down barriers that some community members might face when it comes to transportation. The passes are distributed by partner community organizations. The effort is part of ArtPrize’s social good efforts, which places an emphasis on cultural equity, accessibility, community engagement, environmental sustainability, health and wellness, and arts education. Learn more about how you can be part of the ArtPrize conversation and make sure to check out the artwork featured in Blue Cross’ downtown Grand Rapids location.
