Early June and the lilacs are beginning to blossom on Mackinac Island. With the tourist season kicking off, the island also plays host to The Detroit Regional Chamber’s Mackinac Policy Conference. This year’s program aims to continue the conversation around one of last year’s pillars, Urban Revitalization, and will include three new pillars:
  • Entrepreneurship: Build a progressive and robust entrepreneurial economy to achieve sustainable job growth and increased capital investment.
  • Urban Education: Increase Michigan’s educational attainment through a cohesive ecosystem that implements innovative models that prepare students for post-secondary education or training.
  • Investing in the Future: Grow high-profile business sectors including automotive, advanced manufacturing, defense and IT; to ensure future investment and jobs in Michigan.
In the past, the Mackinac Policy Conference has been seen as a closed event. This year, the Detroit Regional Chamber wants the conference to be accessible to as many people as possible. In a quote from The Mackinac Policy Conference Blog, CEO of the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, Sandy Baruah shares, “We want to lift the veil off the conference…everything is streamed live, we have media row, hundreds of working media…both local and national.” Michigan residents can watch live coverage of the three-day event here on our blog thanks to the Detroit Public Television’s LiveStream broadcast. The live stream is scheduled to run starting Wednesday, June 1st at 12:00pm EDT, and ending Friday, June 3rd at 11:00am EDT. Check Detroit Public TV’s broadcast schedule for updates and additional information – www.livestream.com/detroitpublictv Like last year, we plan to have coverage of events from our on-site blogger. MI Blues Perspectives readers can also follow the official conference hashtag, #MPC16, on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. We may also post the occasional picture on our Instagram channel.
