How to Experience a Sound Bath

A sound bath using a Tibetan singing bowl has been found to have beneficial effects linked with reducing tension and improving mood and well-being.
During a sound bath, a person will lie on the ground while a practitioner plays a variety of sounds with various musical instruments.
The practitioner might use singing bowls, crystal bowls, gongs, tuning forks, chimes, drums, cymbals and other instruments that create resonant tones to immerse a person in sound. This can create a relaxed and meditative state to let go of tension, stress, fatigue, anxiety or other concerns.
There are several ways to experience a sound bath:
  • Attend a sound bath event that may last 60 to 90 minutes while a practitioner plays a variety of sounds for a relaxing and meditative experience.
  • Schedule a one-on-one session with a practitioner that is held in a private setting.
  • At home, you can sit comfortably in a chair or on the floor and take a few deep breaths as you set an intention or goal for the day. Focus on your breath as you play your instrument of choice and allow the sounds and vibrations to soothe and relax you.
Whichever option you choose, all that’s left to do is to immerse yourself in the sounds and vibrations as you relax, listen and breathe.
