Growing up in my Detroit neighborhood, my childhood memories are filled with pick-up games on the street, sledding at Balduck park, and trips to Cunningham’s Drug Store and the Sanders Ice Cream shop, just a short walk from home. I personally understand how important it is for a city to have thriving neighborhoods that stretch far beyond their city centers. That’s why it was especially meaningful to stand alongside City of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and community leaders to share that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan will be partnering with the East Warren/Cadieux Neighborhood and the City to engage residents and identify ways we can support the needs of that vibrant community – the community where I grew up.
Blue Cross is one of the seven corporate partners that have each committed $5 million over five years to support the Affordable Housing Leverage Fund and the city's Strategic Neighborhood Fund. I’m proud of our company’s 80-year history of supporting Michigan’s communities and the many ways we demonstrate our commitment to the health and well-being of our residents. In 2018 alone, Blue Cross invested nearly $93 million in community health programs throughout our state. Cities and communities across our state need thriving neighborhoods, and we at Blue Cross strongly believe that corporate partners help ensure their vibrancy. We look forward to partnering with the residents and leaders of East Warren/Cadieux to build a healthy future together.
