A conference usually means a larger-than-normal gathering of people. Sometimes they’re strangers and sometimes we’re familiar with those that are there. It can also be a mix of family, friends, associates, colleagues, and complete strangers. No matter who they are though, one thing is true for everyone attending; there's a higher chance of germs spreading than usual. Germs are everywhere - from coughs and sneezes to sweat and saliva. Just a single cough can release 3,000 droplets which contain germs, and a single sneeze could release around 100,000 droplets. Even something as simple as a touch can spread germs. But what’s wrong with a few germs being spread around? A lot! Germs have the potential to lead to bacterial infections such as strep throat, viruses like the common cold or influenza, and much more. The last thing anyone wants to do is leave sick. So, how can you arm your body to fight off those germs?
Minimize Physical Contact
At any conference, you’re likely to meet new people. A lot of hands get shaken and it’s possible for one of the people behind those hands to be a carrier of bad germs. Just that one interaction can be enough for the germs to crawl their way onto you.
Wash Your Hands
If you were interacting with an object that others were also using, make sure to clean your hands. That object could be carrying germs from the other people that used it. Take Precautionary Measures
If allergies or a cold are getting the best of you, sneeze or cough into your elbow. This helps to ensure all the germs you just expelled don’t go back into your system and reduce the risk of everyone else at the conference. Doing this will also keep the germs from ending up on your hands, and it is always good to keep those clean. You can also opt to wear an anti-viral face mask. The mask serves as a barrier between the germs in the air and your nose and mouth.
Stay Healthy
It may seem obvious, but just staying healthy in general is a good way to ensure you don’t get sick after a conference. Staying healthy will keep your immune system strong, and there are many different ways to go about this. Ensure you have a balanced diet and are getting enough vitamins and minerals each day.
