DETROIT, Nov. 14, 2016 — This Thanksgiving, 11-year-old Gavin DeVore of Middleville will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience as the winner of the 2016 #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Detroit Lions. As this year’s “Turkey Day VIP,” Gavin will ride on the Blue Cross float in America’s Thanksgiving Parade® presented by Art Van, deliver the game ball to Ford Field and enjoy a catered, Thanksgiving dinner while watching the game with nine guests. “The #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes is a fun and engaging way for Blue Cross and the Lions to highlight children’s health and encourage kids to get active,” said Andrew Hetzel, vice president of Corporate Communications at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. “We’re excited to recognize Gavin for his dedication to getting in 60 minutes of active play every day—especially during the holiday season when busy schedules and Michigan weather can sometimes act as deterrents to physical activity.” Gavin DeVore was chosen randomly from more than 1,400 entries, who all shared how they get active on Thanksgiving day. For the second year in a row, the sweepstakes was hosted on the Detroit Lions website and open to Michigan children ages 10-18. As part of the #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes winner package, Gavin will:
  • Ride on the Blue Cross float in America’s Thanksgiving Parade® presented by Art Van with two adults
  • Deliver the commemorative game ball to Ford Field prior to the Lions taking on the Minnesota Vikings
  • Participate in both the national anthem and “fan tunnel” on-field prior to the game
  • Enjoy a catered, Thanksgiving dinner for 10 while watching the game
The #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes supports Blue Cross’ ongoing commitment to children’s health through its #MIKidsCan campaign and partnership with the Detroit Lions’ Play 60 program – initiatives focused on encouraging kids to adopt healthy habits and get active for at least 60 minutes every day. Over the last 11 years, Blue Cross has given more than $6.5 million in support of kids’ health and wellness initiatives across the state, reaching nearly 200,000 children in nearly 400 schools.
