Blue Cross’ dedication to developing and supporting women-owned suppliers continues to earn recognition. For the third straight year, the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council (a regional chapter of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council) honored BCBSM with its Excellence in Supplier Diversity Award. And this time, it was in the highest category — Best in Class. “The Best in Class honor is reserved for companies that have excelled in all of the major survey categories, including spending with women-owned companies and advocating for women-owned businesses,” said Jim Line, senior director, Corporate Procurement. “We’re honored to receive this award and look forward to building our partnership in the years ahead.” The organization also honored Supplier Diversity Administrator Lynn Garrison with its Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award. "It has been a pleasure representing BCBSM and working with the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council," Garrison said. "Through our collaborative efforts we strive to identify, connect, mentor and grow women-owned businesses who align with our company’s mission of providing affordable, innovative products that improve care and health."
The Great Lakes Women’s Business Council is committed to empowering women and minorities economically through business development training, supplier certification, business-to-business networking and accessible capital assistance programs. The council has about 1,000 members in Michigan and Indiana, as well as 100 corporate members, including BCBSM.
