On June 17, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies across the nation joined in a pledge to stand united against racism, hate and discrimination. Read the full pledge and our commitments to action here.
As an organization, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is committed to fighting discrimination and systemic racism by supporting initiatives that benefit diverse populations and communities. We work with and fund diverse partners to find effective solutions that make a difference in overcoming health disparities. By championing diverse voices at our table, we empower better health and a brighter future for all. Last week, our President and CEO, Daniel J Loepp, took a powerful step by joining eight other Detroit-based CEOs and Mayor Mike Duggan to emphatically denounce racism at all levels. Racism, hate and discrimination are not welcome at Blue Cross. Annually, Blue Cross’ Diversity & Inclusion division provides more than 200 learning sessions and experiential volunteer activities for employees to learn about different cultures and communities. The sessions and activities provide a platform to discuss social issues and better understand others to help remove stereotypes. Blue Cross also has an internal website where employees can access information and resources to learn about different cultures and communities. Moving forward, we commit to more of the hard work that leads to equity in the health care system and beyond, vowing to speak up with our collective voices whenever injustice occurs.
