Learn Hands-Only CPR at Upcoming Mid-Michigan Events

Would you know what to do if a loved one, neighbor or stranger collapsed in front of you? You’d likely call 911, but then what? Learning how to administer hands-only CPR can be the difference between life and death. Research shows that a victim’s chance of survival can increase twofold when bystanders perform CPR. But only one in six Americans know that hands-only CPR is the recommended technique to offer aid, according to a Cleveland Clinic survey. That means you don’t even have to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to be effective. You simply push hard and fast in the center of the victim’s chest while you wait for emergency medical personnel to arrive. A mid-Michigan organization is partnering with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to take hands-only CPR training on the road this year to help more people feel confident in their ability to save a life if the need were to ever arise. You can find the Pulse3 Foundation’s “sidewalk CPR” trainings at the following events:
- May 4: Cinco de Mayo Festival, Saginaw
- May 22: Midland Farmers Market, Midland
- July 19: Communities Under the Stars Community Resource Fair, Saginaw
- Aug. 2: Friday Night Live, Saginaw
- Aug. 3: Midland River Days, Midland
- Aug. 8: Party on McCarty, Saginaw
- Aug. 17: Chalk Walk, Bay City
- Oct. 25: Saginaw Valley State University Trunk or Treat Around the Track, Saginaw
- Oct. 26: Zoo Boo Saginaw, Saginaw
The Pulse3 Foundation also spreads the word about hands-only CPR at their annual Shocks & Saves® Charity Hockey Game at the Dow Event Center. The game is presented in partnership with sudden cardiac arrest survivor (and Detroit Red Wings alum) Jiri Fischer, Mobile Medical Response and the Saginaw Spirit. Local nursing students will volunteer to be “heart warriors” and assist in the group trainings, which will reach a large number of people in a short amount of time. “We’re excited to bring Sidewalk CPR training to people attending these upcoming community events and know that lives will be saved as a result,” said Mark Hitchcock, CEO, Pulse3 Foundation. “Knowing what to do in the event of an emergency will empower people to take action and help others in need. We’re thankful to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network for sponsoring our efforts to bring this important program to the community.” Interested in learning hands-only CPR?
