DiversityInc magazine, the nation’s leading workplace diversity publication, has placed Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan atop its 2015 Top 10 Regional Companies list for excellence in diversity management practices. Blue Cross increased its regional ranking from eighth in 2014 to first this year, and was the only company in Michigan to be included on the regional list. This marks the fifth consecutive year Blue Cross has received leadership recognition from Diversity Inc. Rankings for the list are based on talent pipeline, equitable talent development (including commitments to mentorship and philanthropy), CEO/leadership commitment, and supplier diversity. The list is derived exclusively from corporate survey submissions. Companies are evaluated within the context of their own industries, with more than 15 industries represented. "Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is honored to be recognized by DiversityInc for our commitment to diversity – both within and outside of our organization," said Amal Berry, senior director, Diversity and Inclusion, BCBSM. “The last five years, we’ve ascended to the top of DiversityInc’s rankings, demonstrating our commitment to our members, staff, and business partners, not to mention the value we place in true community partnerships.” Blue Cross’ commitment to diversity is reinforced throughout the entire organization, and includes:
- Diversity Leadership Council comprised of executives throughout the organization to help employees understand and participate in diversity and inclusion initiatives
- Corporate-wide diversity training
- Diverse employee resource network groups
- Development of new partnerships with diverse suppliers, as BCBSM currently works with nearly 200 diverse suppliers statewide.
According to DiversityInc, the Top 50 Companies for Diversity competition began in 2001 as corporations were beginning to understand the business value of diversity-management initiatives. The competition has evolved and continues to be refined and improved to reflect how rapidly companies are adapting these strategies. More than 1,000 companies participated this year and the competition for a spot on the DiversityInc Top 50 and Specialty Lists was up over 30% this year. The list is completely unbiased; companies that have a business relationship with DiversityInc receive no preferential treatment. For more information on the awards, please visit diversityinc.
