Healthy employees are happier and more productive and engaged. Research shows companies that implement wellness programs are more successful in reducing their employee health care costs, lowering absenteeism and improving morale. If you’re a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan or Blue Care Network group customer, there’s an easy, customizable weight-loss challenge you can offer at your workplace. The Win by Losing program helps your employees take the first step toward a healthier lifestyle. Teams across the state compete for bragging rights while losing weight. We’ll track your team’s progress each week and the team with the largest percentage of weight loss at the end of the competition wins. Each winning team gets an official Win by Losing trophy and t-shirts for each participant. A toolkit makes it easy for your company to print banners, customize newsletters and share meal plans and recipes for participants to take advantage of. Since the program was launched in 2009, participants have lost more than 112,000 pounds. There are two rounds of competition every year – one from February to April and another from September to November. Registration for the first round in 2017 starts Feb. 20. On that day, your company’s team captain should visit bcbsm.com/yourhealth and submit your company’s name, the number of participating employees and the total weight of the participating group. The team captain is responsible for submitting the team’s total weight loss each Friday by 5 p.m. The actual contest goes from Feb. 27 to April 28. If you have any questions about getting started, email WinbyLosing@bcbsm.com. Read about how employees in these Northern Michigan communities improved their health through the program.
